What to do if your pet is lost, and what to do to ensure safe return
Losing a companion non-human animal whom you have probably loved for several years is always a sad experience, but there are things you can do to help her safe return.  Here are a few useful tips.

It's not enough that your pet wears a collar.  This would only show that she was being looked after, and not who was the carer.  Make sure that on the collar there is an identification tag (see example below), preferably with name and telephone number.  This will ensure that whoever finds her, may be able to trace the carer.  Always keep a recent photo of the non-human animal in your care.  This will be useful in case she will get lost.  Sending a photo with an advert always helps.

If your pet gets lost, you should always inform all animal sanctuaries and shelters.  Someone might have found him and took him there.  You should start with the SPCA which is where most pet animals are taken, and continue with the other animal shelters.  You may visit the links section in this website for links to some of the sanctuaries.

If contacting sanctuaries results in a negative response, you may send adverts to the local media (including photo if available).  Also, you may place an advert in the adoptions page on this website.  Such adverts are forwarded by us to the email newsgroup who in turn may forward the message to other people.  If you have any difficulty in placing a free advert on this site, just send us an email.

Finally, please neuter your pet.  If they get lost, unneutered pets may produce several puppies or kittens who may die a slow and painful death in the streets.
