| Lisa Simpson - Vegetarian! |
| It happened on the 15th of October, 1995, when precocious Lisa, always her family's moral beacon on the Fox comedy, militantly swore off eating "meat" after relating the "lamb chops" on her dinner plate to a cute, huggable lamb that licked her at a petting zoo. "What's the difference between this lamb and the one that kissed me?" she asked. Here's a summary of the episode:- At a family day out at "Storytown Village", Lisa is deeply moved by her encounter with a baby lamb at the petting zoo area. Upon returning home from their family excursion, Homer plans to outdo his neighbour Ned Flanders by throwing a BBQ bash. Over a supper of "lamb chops" at which the plans for the BBQ are discussed, Lisa associates her dinner with the baby lamb at the petting zoo: "I can't eat this. | The Vegetarian Vampire duck |
| Another famous Vegetarian cartoon character is Count Duckula, a vegetarian vampire duck. He is mainly a comic book character, but has also appeared in a British cartoon show called "Duckula". Count Duckula was born in an ancient vampire revival ceremony. Every one hundred years, when the moon is in a certain position, one has an opportunity to use magic to reincarnate a vampire. In Duckula's case, tomato ketchup was accidentally used instead of blood...thus resulting in a vegetarian vampire! |

| Homer responds, "Lisa get a hold of yourself. This is lamb not a lamb". Lisa's mother offers chicken breast, rump roast and hot dogs, but Lisa replies, "No, I can't. I can't eat any of them". At school, Lisa first refuses to dissect a worm, then in the cafeteria requests a vegetarian option. These two actions prompt separate rings of the "independent thought alarm" in the principal's office (who concludes that coloured chalk is overstimulating the students). The pupils are then shown a propaganda film by the Meat Council ("part of the Resistance is Useless series"), with "feedlot cattle" graduating to "Bovine University". When Lisa gets hit by a flying hamburger at her father's BBQ, she sabotages the pig roast portion of the party. Soon after she ends up at the Kwik-E-Mart with its East Indian manager Apu, himself vegetarian, who has quietly swapped the counter's hot dogs for veggie dogs. Lisa is then taken to Apu's rooftop garden, where Paul and Linda McCartney appear from behind a hedge. They explain that they have always felt strongly about animal rights. Remarkably, Apu also reveals that he doesn't eat cheese, but that he has learned to be tolerant of others. At that moment, Lisa ascertains that she's been too hard on her father Homer, and sets out to reconcile with him. |
