| Subculture - A lifetime of disappointment (2006) While this second CD retains much of the debut CD's raw sound, which will not disappoint the punk-diehards, this time around, the music is more experimental, probably due to the influences of new members in the band. In fact, in this new CD, one can also hear hints of ska, grunge, and even a "rock ballad / post-punk" style song - even though the lyrics throughout are still a continuation of the social issue theme of the first CD. The issues covered in this second CD span from the subculture movement opposing state/capitalist oppression (Subculture), the so-called "elite" who consider other people as "inferior" (Creme de le creme), people's day-dreaming and swallowing all that the mainstream media tells them (Drowning), captive dolphins in prison pools (The sad smile), prostitution - the modern slavery (Red light street), the growth of fascism - the indirect result of a corrupt and apathetic government (False hopes), drug dealers living off the lives and deaths of drug victims (Scumbag), honesty and deceit (Anybody), apathy and the failure to realise we |
| can all be free (Planet moron), anti-conformity and the failure of individuals to make the necessary changes in their lives and to stand up for their rights (Don't remain silent), and finally, animal abuse which is also one of the results of unbrideled laisez-faire capitalism (What's going wrong). All the above makes "A lifetime of disappointment" a second chapter in the Subculture "Book of life". Buying this CD is a sure way of enjoying good raw/melodic punk/alternative music with a good social message. Hopefully, this will be the second of still many more to come, and perhaps better still, it will produce the desired effect the band members would want - that of opening people's minds to all kinds of human-imposed suffering, and instigating a will to change - beginning with oneself, and proceeding to family, friends - and why not? - the world!
